I was browsing the web and found this really interesting series on a site called Motherboard. I just read it to see what it was about, but I found it so interesting that I wanted to share it with all of you!
The Cure Culture by Jason Koebler is a written about his friend with Cystic Fibrosis. While there are thousands who have a story like his: a friend who has Cystic Fibrosis, struggles, and eventually loses the battle.
The thing that made me love this story so much was the way it was written. It is written in the exact way that I, and many other CF people that I’ve talked to and heard talk, think about life: one day you are fine and the next it could all be over. However, you never know when that will be, so you have to just assume that your life will continue. You keep the same path as your peers in the hope that you will make it as far as they do, but with the balance that you know you might not so you better now waste the time that you are given.
Sorry for the real talk, but it’s something that is important to the lives of us CFers and the way we think. Yes, I went to school and am planning my future just like every other person my age. However, I am also trying to fit in all of my traveling and ambitions before I am too sick to do all that stuff. There may not be a “next year” or “next time”. All I can count on is how I am feeling today.
